Strega was established in 1860 when Giuseppe Alberti and his apothecary father revised an ancient recipe for a herbal liqueur. According to local legend this was brewed by witches and used as a love potion - and this is how it got its name (Strega is the Italian word for witch). Today, this classic herb-based liqueur is still produced in the same historical building next to the train station in Benevento and exported to more than 50 countries worldwide.
